The Hawthorne Police Department wanted to figure out a better way of communicating with the people they serve, and what’s better than enjoying a nice cup of coffee? That’s why the Hawthorne Police Department launched the “Coffee with a Cop” program where officers would sit in a local McDonalds for a few hours and invite customers from surrounding neighborhoods to sit and talk about community issues and problems in a comfortable atmosphere. The first day of the program had such success that they decided to keep it and hold a “Coffee with a Cop” day every six weeks.
