The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) serves a population of 785,000 with a staff of 1,752 sworn and 464 non-sworn employees. CMPD is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The department’s policing strategy places an emphasis on engaging citizens as active partners in problem identification and crime reduction, raising the perception of safety, and utilizing enforcement actions and partnerships that target priority chronic offenders.
