Work Wouldn’t be the Same Without Brilliant Four-Legged Partner Qai, German Shepherd Police Dog

Assistant Chief Gus Moulas, Elm Grove Police Department, WI

My interest in a law enforcement career began at the early age of 16, when I joined Law Enforcement Exploring. Through this program, I began to understand the role of a police officer and how significantly and positively an officer can impact a community.  Thanks to this exposure, I realized how much I wanted to become part of this profession and make positive changes for the community that I serve today.

At the age of 17, I began as a police dispatcher and became a police officer at the age of 21. I have had the opportunity to serve as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant, and captain, and now I serve as the department’s assistant chief of police.

One of the most rewarding opportunities I have had is serving as a K-9 Police Officer. I am fortunate enough to work with a brilliant partner, a German Shepherd police dog named Qai, who works with me daily. Qai is a multipurpose police dog serving many capacities including public relations. I take Qai to many events, especially when I explain to children what we do together as a K-9 team.

I encourage anyone to think seriously about serving as a police officer. I guarantee that you will find this career rewarding in many different ways.
