I chose a career in law enforcement straight out of college, although the path wasn’t always crystal clear. I knew I wanted a career in public safety, but I had several options. As a child, my appetite for law enforcement was whetted by the television show Adam 12. Then at the age of 14, I joined a volunteer fire department and decided I wanted to be a firefighter. That passed when I joined a volunteer lifesaving crew at the age of 18.
By the time I finished college four years later, I came around full circle when I joined the Mecklenburg County Police Department three days after graduation. Two years later, I joined the Gaston County Police Department, where I’ve been ever since. During my career, I’ve served on patrol, as an undercover agent, as a tactical team member, and as a tactical team medic. I’ve also served as a patrol supervisor, educational services unit supervisor, patrol captain, and special investigations section captain. Currently, I serve as the support service section captain.
Through these 20 years I’ve helped the hurting, comforted the suffering, and put my fair share of bad guys (and girls) in jail.
