Law enforcement was not my first career choice. I didn’t consider law enforcement as a career until I was about 27 years old. Before I became a police officer, I worked in the transportation business, as an insurance claims examiner, and as a United States postal worker. I was an officer in the U. S. Army Reserve. I served in the military with police officers, and they frequently encouraged me to change careers, which I eventually did.
I became a police officer because of the camaraderie, the opportunity to serve my community, and the professionalism displayed by police officers I knew personally and came in contact with. During my nine year career as a law enforcement officer, I have served in the Community Policing Division (patrol), the Educational Services Unit as a D.A.R.E. officer and school resource officer, and finally as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Unit. My most rewarding experiences have come with serving as a detective. As a detective, I have made an impact in the lives of the members of my community by conducting major crime investigations that have led to multiple arrests.
Throughout my law enforcement career, I have continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve, including recent deployments to Kuwait supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
I believe that I made the right career choice. After nine years in law enforcement, I face positive challenges and learn something new every day. Because of this, I enjoy my job and strive to learn new skills as well as improve my existing ones.
