Interaction with Public and Fellow Officers Most Satisfying Part of Law Enforcement

Marci Edwards, Department Affairs and Information, South Ogden Department of Public Safety, UT

I have been employed with the South Ogden Department of Public Safety for five years. While working in my department as a civilian in records, the Director of Public Safety gave me the opportunity to attend the police academy and become a sworn officer.  I applied to the police academy at the age of 32 to explore the opportunities in the field of law enforcement.

My law enforcement career has opened many unexpected doors for me. I am now the Executive Director of Department Affairs and Information for our department. I serve as the public information officer, prepare cases and incidents received via walk-in public, coordinate our community outreach programs, oversee the evidence room, provide administrative support for the Director of Public Safety, and perform many other duties.

Each day in law enforcement is unpredictable and holds new and different challenges. I enjoy the diversity in my job and look forward coming to work each day, and that is something that I value. I enjoy interacting with and assisting the public in any way that I can. I respect and appreciate the fellow officers and employees that I associate with each day; the friendships I have build are an added bonus to a career that is already personally satisfying and fulfilling.
